Now the fun begins...
Let's do a quick recap on what progress has been made so far. For starters we found what genre we wanted our film opening to be, psychological thriller, I got inspiration from the film Shutter Island and discovered we wanted our film opening to revolve around a schizophrenic patient.
Now the fun begins... actually coming up with an overview of what we wanted our film to consist of. I pitched to my group members an idea of filming it about a schizophrenic patient suffering through delusions and hallucinations. I pictured a male character being filmed looking incredibly distraught, punching walls, running his fingers through his hair, whispering to himself, pacing back and forth, all while in the background noises can be heard, such as whispering, and bottles being thrown. I pictured a shadow being shown across the wall. I want to be able to display to the audience the character suffering between what's real and what's not. Paula, one of the group members, came up with a wonderful idea of filming the character in abandoned house. She knew about a local isolated farm house where she received horse back riding lessons from, and told us she would get in contact with the owner of the farm and see if we can get permission to film there. When Paula mentioned filming in an abandoned house a wonderful idea came to mind: to make the film about the schizophrenic patient haven just escaped from a mental asylum and breaking into abandoned house i thought of ways to display his current runaway without physically showing him escaping. I thought about how important Mis En Scene was when it came to films and an idea of making the character wear a hospital gown or mental asylum attire popped into my head. Therefore, the audience is able to connect the dots in their head and figure out that the character had just recently escaped from a mental institution. We recently watched a Ted Talk in class about story telling in films.
Andrew Stanton goes on to talk about how a very important step in film making is to make the audience problem solve, which is why i wanted to include the idea of making the character wear a hospital gown and not specifically show him escaping the asylum. Another thought that came to mind, was the ending including police sirens to try to let the audience know that police went on a manhunt looking for this escapee. Next step finding who we wanted to feature in our film and finding a clear set location on where we were going to film.

Now that we have a clear overview of what we want the film opening to consist of this project became a little less stressful and I am extremely eager to get started.
