Everyone has a backstory
Hello again,
While roaming the internet at different film openings, in hope of getting inspiration, i came across Mad Max: Fury Road opening scene . I found it extremely interesting the use of character development in the opening scene. I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate this is in our film opening, since we are revolving the entire opening around one character. Although i liked the use of the narration in the "Mad Max Fury Road" film opening, i thought it would be more interesting to let the audience problem solve and not give a voice narration about the character's background. My group and i discussed and come up with a backstory for our character to make the film opening a lot easier to film.
The backstory we came up with for our character is that we wanted it to make it that someone in the mental institution the character was placed in, after committing a crime, had convinced him to stop taking his schzoprhenia medication. This outdated mental asylum this character is in had been treating the patients unfairly, and using the patients to experiment on. Only after he stops taking his medication does he start to realize how messed up the asylum is which then prompts him to run away. The inspiration we got of this story was from the film titled "The Giver." In this movie the protagonist, Jonas, stops taking these pills provided to everyone in this community and only then does he start to realize how messed the community really is. After the main characters escapade in our film opening he winds up in an abandoned house miles away from the asylum. This is where we want the film opening to begin, since the character is no longer taking his medication, this explains why the character is experiencing different types of symptoms such as hallucinations, and delusions, in this house. While dealing with his psychotic break near the very end we want to be able for police sirens be heard from outside the house to hint to the audience that the character had escaped from an asylum, and they had gone on a manhunt to find the protagonist.
With a backstory reflecting the character I think it will be a lot easier to film this opening and I'm excited for the filming process to commence.
Until next time!
